1961 Ferrari California Spyder sells for record $10,894,900

This past weekend a new record was set for the highest amount paid for a car at a vintage auction by a 1961 Ferrari California Spyder selling for $10,894,900 after auction fees. The sale was at RM Auction's second annual "Ferrari Leggenda e Passione" auction in Maranello, Italy, and the obviously wealthy buyer was popular British radio host Chris Evans.

While we aren't experts on the classic car market, we can't help but think this sale was the result of a "gotta have it" mentality by Evans with no regard for the actual value of the vehicle. The initial estimate from RM Auctions was nearly half the sale price, and the fact that the car was previously owned by actor James Coburn seems somewhat inconsequential. While there's no doubt that Evans snagged an incredibly beautiful vintage Ferrari, we think he could have got his hands on a California Spyder for much less.

Spied: Veritas RS3 Concept

Not a real famous brand but actually Veritas exists since the WWII. I didn’t know that either… but they went bust in 1952 so if you didn’t know that you are not the only one. They build the Veritas-BMW Rennsport Spyder and thats the only one I know.

It looks like a year 3000 car and that’s why I like it so much! Back in 2001 there was the Veritas RS3 concept powered by a 6.0-litre BMW-sourced V12 with around 670 bhp and 760Nm of torque!

I hope the specs are still as impresive! The manufacturer’s claim of a 350km/h top speed and thats very reasonable! After 7 years they build a modern version of the Veritas RS3 and that’s a good thing but does the car make it to the production? I don’t know.. I really hope so but I am afraid not. You can say it’s a weird and unconvertible but that’s just not a point! People who buy these cars are real petrolheads with more than one car. If Veritas reads this please build more!

‘08 Geneva - KO 7 Spider

After we presented many news from Geneva Motor Show about renowned automakers, I think it’s time that we turn our attention to sports car that will leave you with your mouth gaping. It’s the KO 7 Spider developed by Japanese designer Ken Okuyama, the same man that contributed to Ferrari’s Enzo and Maserati’s Quattroporte with this ideas.
