2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe GXP

The 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe GXP is going to be a lot like classic sports cars, but with a more modern look of course. The Solstice is created for the driver who absolutely loves great styling and a balanced performance. It was released at the 2008 New York Auto Show. They don’t expect to start production on this vehicle until sometime in 2008 and they say not to expect these Coupes in the Pontiac dealers until early 2009.

The Solstice is based on the convertible, and now they have designed it to perform in all weather and terrain. There is still an adjustable roof panel which opens up the roof and roadway to the driver and passengers of this luxury vehicle. The Solstice is the top selling roadster in the US right now and with this new release, it looks to further itself in the front of the pack.

pontiac solstice gxp coupe side view
This coupe comes with a 2.4L with 173HP as well as the GXP hoontastic 260HP 2.0L turbo mill. The Solstice will be sold for roughly $30,000 a piece and they look to sell out at that price. The official price hasn’t been determined yet, and one major setback is that the Solstice may not have any trunk space whatsoever. The release of this vehicle at the Auto Show was huge and it was even accompanied by 50 Cent, which must be great exposure for a car.

pontiac solstice gxp coupe front view
The Pontiac Solstice has been being hyped up for a little while now and a lot of people sure can’t wait for the actual release of this car to the general public. It will be in a reasonable price range and most people will be able to purchase this one for their collection. It’s a great collection piece for any sports enthusiast and I expect to see quite a few of these on the roads come 2009.

Pontiac G8 Sport Truck (2010)

For about the past twenty or so years the El Camino, which use to be oh so famous was basically extinct and you rarely ever seen one unless living out in the country somewhere. Although the new 2010 Pontiac G8 Sport Truck won’t have the official tag and stamp of the El Camino; it looks very similar in style apart from it being more modern looking. The Pontiac was unveil during the 2009 International New York Auto Show and it will be a long awaited entry to the market for some old-timer collectors out there, I can guarantee that.

2010 pontiac g8 sport truck
This truck will be powered by a nice 6.0 Litre V8 engine and it will be able to output a solid 361HP. For a truck, 361HP is not bad, although it could be a bit better. This thing will definitely fly down the open road and the way it’s designed makes it look somewhat aerodynamic. It will only have the option of a six speed automatic transmission, so if you like manual you will need to settle for automatic, at least for the time being. The truck can hit 0-60Mph in just about 5.4 seconds which is about a half second quicker then most sports cars on the market right now. GM has done a lot of tweaks to the sport truck in order to get it prepared for the market and they have done a great job with this model and you should see good results.

2010 pontiac g8 sport truck back view
The G8 will be able to carry over 1000 pounds in the back of the truck and also be able to tow roughly 3500 pounds, which means you can haul quite a bit with the sport truck. You wouldn’t think by appearance that it would be a strong as it is but it was made to be able to perform like any other truck while at the same time maintaining a sport feel to it.

New Aston Martin Rapide spied testing

aston_rapide_main01.jpg
Updated with Nurburgring video.

The long awaited four-door Aston Martin Rapide has been spotted, almost completely undisguised, doing laps of the Nurburgring. This latest video of the prototype includes some close-up shots of the car as it enters and exits a trackside testing facility as well as some high speed runs around the popular circuit. We also for the first time can hear the rumble of the V12 mill at full tilt as the svelte sedan barrels past the camera’s microphone.

Previous prototypes were last spotted on the frozen lakes of Sweden for winter testing, and somewhere in between its journey from Sweden to Germany the Rapide was given a full-length glass roof. While the rear lights in the spy shots are similar to the plain red ones found on the DB9, it is uncertain whether the production version will share the same clear taillights of the original concept version from 2006’s Detroit Auto Show.

Other than this, the testing model remains faithful to the stunning concept and it looks like it’s shaping up to be one of the best looking four-doors on the planet. Porsche’s upcoming Panamera and the Mercedes CLS will have a tough time competing with the new Aston, which is expected to develop upwards of 500hp in some guises. A less powerful V8 model is expected to debut after the launch of the introductory V12 range-topper.

Unfortunately for purists, the Rapide will not be built at Aston’s traditional Gaydon plant in England - production of the four-door has been contracted to Magna Steyr who will build the vehicle at its Austrian plant.

Production is expected to start in 2009 for the Rapide, giving it ample time to get into the market against the upcoming Panamera, although rivals like the CLS and Maserati Quattroporte already have a big head start over the new four-door Porsche and Aston.

Audi reveals 2009 A3 facelift and A3 Sportback

audi_a3_facelift_main.jpg

Audi has revealed the new face of the A3 range with the unveiling today of the 2009 A3 and A3 Sportback. The A3 has been a stunning seller for Audi since the launch of the first generation model back in 1996, with over 1.9 million units built since then, and the latest facelifted version is likely to continue that success thanks to a raft of new technologies not normally found in this segment.

The new A3 lineup is now available with Audi’s S tronic seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, magnetic ride adaptive suspension and parking aids both front and rear. Other changes include the addition of the new Sportback model, which is now available in performance S3 trim complete with a 265hp (195kW) powerplant and quattro AWD traction.

New visual details include a re-sculpted front bumper and hood, a large single-frame radiator grille, revised headlights with optional bi-xenon globes and LED daytime running lights, side mirrors with integrated turn signals and new door handles.

As before, Audi is bringing the A3 and A3 Sportback onto the market with eight different engines – five petrol and three diesel versions. The lineup includes a 102hp (75kW) 1.6L petrol unit, 125hp (92kW) 1.4L TFSI, 160hp (118kW) 1.8L TFSI, 200hp (147kW) 2.0L TFSI and a range topping 3.2L V6 with 250hp (184kW) on tap. The diesel range includes a 1.9L TDI with 105hp (77kW) and two 2.0L TDI units with either 140hp (103kW) or 170hp (125kW).

The 1.6L petrol is capable of running on ethanol, while the most efficient motor – the 1.9 TDI in an ‘e’ economy model – consumes just 4.5L of diesel per 100km (52mpg).

Shipping will commence in the middle of the year, with prices in Europe starting at €20,350.

The U.S launch for the car is scheduled for the third quarter of the year and only the five-door hatch will be available. Two different petrol engines will be available: a 2.0L TFSI with 200hp (147kW) and a 3.2L V6 with 250hp (186kW).

Video: James Bond DBS fished from Italian lake

Over the weekend we reported that an Aston Martin DBS used for filming in the latest James Bond flick, Quantum of Solace, ended up at the bottom of a lake in Italy after the driver, on route to the film set, lost control in rainy weather. We now have video footage of the car after it was extracted by authorities, which you can view after the jump. Pity there wasn’t a camera there to capture the action because it would have made for some very exciting footage.

Record : Neiman Marcus M6 sells out in under 2 minutes

m6_nieman.jpg

Neiman Marcus’ 50 special edition BMW M6 coupes, which went on sale from 12.00pm yesterday, sold out in a mere one minute, thirty-two seconds. This latest car is just another “must-have” automobile in a long list of limited-edition cars from the retailer, whose previous models included the hybrid Lexus GS 450h, a BMW 645Ci and even the GMC Suburban Sony edition.

Neiman Marcus, the brand referred to sometimes as “Needless Markup” because if its high prices, managed to move all 50 units at $139,000 a piece, with most of the orders coming thorough the jammed phone lines.

On top of the 507bhp Formula 1 inspired 5.0L V10, the special edition M6 comes with a unique interior and even includes a trip to the German factory to take personal delivery of the car

Catching Up With The Fastest Car

Shelby super cars, sure kick Veyron ass. I think i had already post about this tremendous and awsome car, an American firm Shelby Super Cars. They name it, Ultimate Aero TT which describe it performance. It sure suit well as the fastest car ever built.

It looks like there is a new challenger to the Veyron’s throne as the fastest production car in the world. American firm Shelby Super Cars which, by the way, is not related to Carroll Shelby is aiming to break the speed record set by the Veyron with the Ultimate Aero TT. As can be expected, if you set a speed record, you have to expect that the competition will be gunning for that record.

If you are looking for a great looking car, then the Bugatti Veyron and the Ultimate Aero TT will not disappoint you. Not only these cars look good but they also pack a mean punch under their hood or wherever they stow their engines.

The Ultimate Aero TT, according to its manufacturer, has these specifications regarding the ultra-fast Ultimate Aero. I found these at the manufacturer’s site and I just chose some to let you have a sample of what this American supercar has in store for the Veyron.

Engine:

  • Type: Aluminum Block and Heads (V-8)
  • Displacement: 387.2 cu.in.
  • Horsepower: 1183 bhp at 6950 rpm
  • Torque: 1094 lb./ft. at 6150 rpm
  • Redline: 7200 rpm

Dynamics:

  • Coefficient of drag (Cd): 0.357
  • Frontal Area: 19.0 square feet
  • Belly pan: Complete flat belly pan with rear Venturi tunnels

Record-Breaking Times:

  • 0 to 60 mph: 2.78 seconds
  • 1/4 mile: 9.90 seconds at 144 mph
  • Skidpad: 1.05 g
  • 0 to 100 mph to 0: 11.66
  • 60 mph to 0 (braking): 103 feet

If you want the complete specs of this challenger to the Veyron’s land supremacy, you can visit http://www.sscautos.com/specifications.php.

Anyway, the manufacturer of this supercar reported that while testing the car in Nevada, they were able to note 388 kilometers per hour. While it is still far from Veyron’s 407 miles per hour land speed record, SSC pointed out that the throttle of the Ultimate Aero was set to only 71 percent. After clocking that time in, a freak snowstorm prevented the team from testing the Aero.

While apparently disappointed with Mother Nature’s apparent intervention on the behalf of the Veyron, SSC’s marketing director Junus Khan is still confident that the Ultimate Aero can dethrone the reigning and defending fastest production car, the Bugatti Veyron.

Aside from the Ultimate Aero, it seems that the woodworks are crawling with cars looking to unseat the Veyron. The Melling Hellcat, a supercar designed by engine expert Al Melling is also looking to break the Veyron’s record. The Bristol Fighter T is also a car looking for its spot in the record books and its aiming for the Veyron’s record.

Bugatti Confirms Veyron Targa

Bugatti is indeed working on a ‘Targa’ version of the Veyron supercar and that will introduce in 2009.

bugatti-veyron-targa.jpg

The company is forced to build a Targa (removable roof) rather than a convertible (fold roof) as there is no storage space available for roof in the car.

Like coupe edition, Targa version will also be limited to just 300 units.
